The primary function of RegFlo™ is the acquisition and
storage of flow and pressure data. It also provides alarm and
diagnostic functions relative to these data points. RegFlo™
enables gas utilities to:
Flow and Pressure Data
Modular, self-monitoring RegFlo™ is the next step in advanced
flow technology from Fisher Controls.
Before RegFlo™ technology, monitoring usage at district
stations necessitated installation of expensive metering equipment.
Today, information on gas flow is immediately available via
computer link from each district regulator outfitted with
RegFlo™, so the gas utility company can:
- Avoid the expense of flow meters at multiple locations
- Obtain additional information about the overall system
Mounted on a Fisher Type EZR Regulator, RegFlo™ measures and
monitors gas flow across the EZR. The module may also be mounted
remotely from the regulator and used only to monitor line
pressures.
As the valve plug opens, more flow area is available. RegFlo
measures the travel of the valve plug and, along with inlet and
outlet pressure, estimates a flow based on an algorithm for the
valve type, size and construction. (Currently, RegFlo™ fits
the 2-inch and 4-inch Fisher EZR with future plans to include all
sizes of EZR and 1098EGR regulators.)
RegFlo™ makes data available for a variety of uses, such
as gas load forecasting, system balancing and modeling, and
pipeline inventory estimations.
Remotely measuring and monitoring gas flow enables gas companies
to plan and create a more efficient distribution system,
fine-tuning it to maximize usage.
NOTE: It is a U.S. Department of Transportation requirement to
document pressure at certain district stations.
